Decisive Point is pleased to announce its investment in Pison Technologies, Inc., a biopotential insights and applications company developing a touch-less control platform that interprets the intent of human physiological electrical signals– such as lifting a finger or inhaling a breath– and communicates that intent to third party applications.

Pison’s groundbreaking technology was originally developed to help patients who could no longer move their extremities control digital interfaces just by thinking of their intended physical movement. What began as a mission to help patients navigate the world made smaller by their disability has evolved into a world-class platform that connects neurological output with today’s digital world.

Pison’s technology captures neuromuscular signals on the surface of the skin, which they then combine with proprietary machine learning algorithms to enable both human state monitoring and the touchless control of military and enterprise systems.

Applications for defense

Pison is uniquely positioned to achieve meaningful growth in both the commercial and federal markets. The company’s wearable technology is currently at a high maturity level and has been successfully integrated with a myriad of Augmented Reality peripherals like Microsoft’s HoloLens, Magic Leap One, Bose AR, and smartphones as a pass-through device to control other AR and non-AR systems for a range of different applications.

Pison has achieved substantial momentum with the Department of Defense, securing over $19.8 million in non-dilutive funding from the Air Force, Navy, and Special Operations Command as well as NASA and the National Science Foundation. This traction has been strengthened by commercial subcontracting work for Microsoft, Bose, and Google.

In tandem with the US Army and Air Force, Pison is designing and developing a fully functional AR menu and Heads Up Display (HUD) control interface that uses gesture and gaze. Last year, Pison completed iterative testing with Army, Navy, and Air Force end-users and anticipates completing the platform’s rugged form factor this year. Pison anticipates its technology to be operationally deployed in the field with Special Operations Forces in 2023.

The Pison team

Pison is led by a team of 35 engineers, scientists, and business professionals with backgrounds in software, deep learning, autonomous systems, and human factors. As a result, Pison’s full-stack technology and solutions are developed completely in-house. The company’s strategic investors include In-Q-Tel, Bose, and Lavrock Ventures.

Decisive Point is thrilled to partner with Pison and support its mission to harness the power of human intent to change the form and function of the world.
